From the tone of the auther, I m he never see much of the rest of the world and has never been culturally educated. He seems to care more about food and superficial material life than anything. And he thinks Shanghai is better than NYC because he has more chance to see more expensive cars and high buildings, which has nothing with his personal life at all.

Can never understand this chinese mentality, the auther really has a deep rooted chinese way of understanding anything he sees.

我真不明白为什么中国人这么大方的吃。
不管公款私款，5，6个人随随便便就吃1000块。
1000块能做很多事情啊。。
就算联络感情，大家食堂吃一顿，然后找个茶馆喝喝茶不好吗？
顶多200块吧。
