英国杂志《Economist》是全球知名的政经类读物，广受好评。
不久前，奥巴马还接受杂志专访，其影响力可见一斑。

8月22日，《经济学人》出了最新一期，封面特写为“What China wants”，再度聚焦中国。

澎湃新闻眼疾手快，8月25日早上将英文翻译，并公布到网站，引得多家媒体转载。
小编读过原文，甚觉精彩，本来想摘取中文跟大家分享，谁曾想，阅读译文后，却发现了一个惊天大秘密——澎湃新闻的翻译不。可。信。

接着往下看。


开头第一句边露出马脚：

当中国再度成为世界第一大经济体时，它想要重获过去数百年里所享有的那份尊重。（原文是：As China becomes, again,the world’s largest economy, it wants therespect it enjoyed in centuries past.But is does not know how to achieve ordeserve it）高中语文老师告诉我们，“但是”后面才是重点。可是，这里重点却消失了。


孤例难证，来第二波：

译文如下：无论如何，一方面谋划着要有所改变，另一方面又要维持原状，实在是一项进退维谷的任务。中国领导层努力控制着一个经济、社会都高速发展的中国，他们已在设法解决国内变革与稳定之间的巨大矛盾，这使得任务更为困难。

（原文是：Finessingthis need for things to change yet stay the same would bea tricky task in anycircumstances. It is made harder by the fact thatChina’sLeninist leadership is already managing a hugecontradiction between change andstasis at home as it tries to keep its grip ona society which has transformeditself socially almost as fast as it has growneconomically. And it ismademore dangerous by the fact that China is steeped in a belligerent（好斗） formof nationalism and ruled over by men whorespond to every perceived threat andslight with disproportionateself-assertion.）
红色字体部分因与主旋律不合，只字未提，而那才是具有分量的话。


第三例：
译文是这样的：中国渴望重新崛起，而美国则决意不让中国的崛起梦危害到自身及其盟友的利益（对于该如何回应还不清晰），综上所述，你会感到，这是一场不太明朗的对抗。

(原文是：Put togetherChina’sdesire to re-establish itself (without beingfully clear about what that mightentail)andAmerica’sdetermination not to let thatdesire disrupt its interests and those of itsallies(without being clear abouthow to respond )and you have the sort ofill-defined rivalry that can be verydangerous indeed. Shi Yinhong,ofRenmin Universityin Beijing, one ofChina’smosteminent foreign-policy commentators, says that, five years ago, he wassure thatChinacouldrise peacefully, as it says it wants to. Now, he says, he is not sosure.)

时殷弘教授的话被屏蔽了。


第四例：
译 文有这么一段：随着发展，中国不再以昔日大国的眼光看世界，将其视为贡品的来源，而是敞开心扉去接受欧洲《威斯特伐利亚和约》所传达的那种精神：真正平等 的主权国家彼此间之所以不同，是因为各自拥有的财富和国力有所差异，绝没有任何等级划分。如今的中国必须平等地看待自己与他国。
（文中有一段话与此不同，可惜译者却没有贯彻平衡原则，那段话是这样的：Alliances oftengrow out of shared values; if you don’t have them,friends are harder to find.Awe can be a respectable alternative to friendship,and China has begun to awethe world-but also to worry it.）

类似的“故意性失误”很多，原文经过“选择性翻译”，不和谐因素便统统祛除，化身为澎湃新闻网上“译中国”栏目的一篇广为流传的文字。
如果读者通过译本，便以为全面领会了作者的原意，那真是天大的误解。
无论是否赞同原文观点，既然名为翻译，就该尽可能忠实呈现原本的意思，而不是通过隐秘的“选择性翻译”的手法，肆意扭曲，借翻译的口，说自己的话。
澎湃新闻竟然以这样隐蔽的方式欺蒙善良读者，令小编惊诧。


这个故事告诉我们：
第一，我心澎湃如昨，他手控制依旧。
第二，懂一点英语，可减少被骗的机会。
